Preliminary work started Tuesday on a water main replacement in Missoula. The construction on Pine Street just west of Madison Street is just part of a series of projects Missoulians will see over the summer.
Mountain Water Company will complete two different projects over the summer that will enhance both the delivery and storage of residential water.
One projects is to replace water mains on Madison Street – taking out the two current, aging 16-inch mains and replacing them with just one 24-inch main.
In addition the company will construct a 300,000 gallon water tank at the top of Hillview Way in south Missoula. The concrete structure will replace an aging water tank.
“We have a lot of infrastructure to maintain,” said Chief Engineer Logan McInnis. “We have 300 and some miles of water main that we have to maintain, primarily just to keep up with the infrastructure replacement, a lot of it is aging.”
Mountain Water Company says residents should expect some traffic delays on Madison Street between Broadway and Spruce. Traffic on Broadway will be reduced to two lanes in the area as well at some points during the project.
Some residents may experience temporary water serve outage as well. Mountain Water Company will give 24-hour notice to those who will be impacted.
