MISSOULA, Mont. -

Following up on a story we told you about Wednesday - authorities have a suspect in the case of checks taken from mailboxes.

Now the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department is on the search for Allen J. Rankin who they say wanted for check fraud. 

Paige Pavalone the public information officer for the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department tells us Rankin lives in St. Ignatius but may be hiding at another location.

He's described as a 42 year old Native American man, 6'2" tall and weighing roughly 210 pounds.

Rankin has black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos.

Pavalone tells us he may be traveling with a woman who broke probation in Missoula County.

The sheriff's department warns the public to be extra cautious with mailed checks.

"Either drop your mail in a secure box at the post office or wait until you know the pick-up times are approaching and try to get as close to that time as you can,” said Pavalone.
