MISSOULA, Mont. -

Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman tells NBC Montana that David Kaiser's business partners and friends reported him missing June 29.

For 17 days, the Sheriff's Department and the community searched, following leads in Livingston and Reno.

Today deputies spoke to Kaiser face to face, at his home in Victor.

They want to spread the word to the public to stop searching for him.

Hoffman says Kaiser won't give investigators any information until he has an attorney present, but the department is determined to get to the bottom of why Kaiser disappeared.

Hoffman told NBC Montana, "At this point in time, we are unclear as to why he left, or about details surrounding his disappearance.  Obviously, we are interested in knowing that, given the amount of time spent on the search and the investigation."

We will keep you updated on what the Ravalli County Sheriff's Department discovers about Kaiser.
