Mercaptan spill at NorthWestern Energy sparks phone calls
KALISPELL, Mont. -

Were you smelling a gas odor today? NorthWestern Energy in Kalispell told NBC Montana there's no need to worry.

A retired pot of mercaptan was brought back to the Kalispell offices from Browning Thursday. Mercaptan is what's added to natural gas to give it that unique smell. A small amount spilled in NorthWestern's yard, but employees were able to spray a neutralizing agent to stop the smell.

We're told about 10 calls came into NorthWestern's office about the smell.
