KALISPELL, Mont. -

A judge sentenced Dante Kier to 35 years in Montana's mental health hospital after he stabbed a Kalispell man in his home early last year.

Kier originally plead not guilty to charges of attempted homicide, but changed his plea to guilty in December

"Despite my mental illness, I did something terrible, and in no way I feel as though I'm being given more than what is necessary. I'm absolutely willing and capable to take responsibility for what I've done," Kier said when he took the stand to tell the court how he felt about the situation.

Kier is also ordered to pay of $1,900 in restitution.
