A Kalispell man who police say assaulted a 6-year-old boy by hitting him with a belt has pleaded not guilty to felony assault on a minor resulting in bodily injury.
The Daily Inter Lake reports (http://bit.ly/16h0sAw) that 34-year-old Shawn Sharp made the plea Thursday in Flathead District Court.
Authorities say the child didn't show up for school and an investigation found the child had bruises on his face, forehead, lower legs, thighs and pain around his eye.
Police say Sharp hit the child's exposed legs and backside with a belt and struck him in the face with a diaper.
Sharp has been released after posting a $5,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 16.
