GREAT FALLS, Mont. -

A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for recording videos of himself sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 36-year-old Cascade County resident Jason Charles Shouse was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon. Shouse earlier pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children and production of child pornography.

Shouse was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 18 suspended after pleading guilty to sexual intercourse without consent in 1997. He also was required to register as a sex offender.

In July 2012, the Cascade County sheriff's office received a report that images of child pornography were found on one of Shouse's old cellphones. Investigators say a memory card from the phone contained images of Shouse sexually assaulting a child that apparently were recorded in 2008.
