MISSOULA, Mont. -

A judge handed down a 20 year prison sentence for a man who stabbed his wife, almost to death.

Emmitt Hogsten Jr. showed up in Missoula County District Court Tuesday, exactly a year after he stabbed his ex-wife Jennifer Newman multiple times and left her for dead.

The two were arguing in Newman's pickup truck on Desmet Road just west of Missoula. Hogsten stabbed her several times and then left the scene. Newman got help from a business nearby.

Tuesday, District Court Judge Karen Townsend sentenced Hogsten to 50 years in the Montana State Prison with 30 years suspended. She also set a parole restriction, forcing Hogsten to serve 20 years before he's eligible.
