MISSOULA, Mont. -

A lightning strike in Ravalli County sent one man to the hospital Thursday evening.

Shortly before 5 p.m. emergency crews responded to Stevensville, south of Missoula, for a call that a man was injured by a lightning strike.

Our reporter headed to the scene to speak with witnesses who told us the 20-year-old man was laying irrigation pipe in a field when lightning struck the pipe and burned him.

The man was taken to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula with second-degree burns.

A woman on the scene said the man was wearing headphones and may have had damage to his ears as well.

One farmer told us he heard what happened, and got on his ATV and raced out to aid the victim and call for help.
