The latest controversial megaload is expected to be on its way from Milltown to Alberta, Canada, Tuesday evening.
An Oregon-based hauler is pulling water purification equipment. It's 134 feet long, 21 feet in diameter and 160 tons.
The load is heading up Highway 200 and was in Milltown all day Tuesday.
Omega Morgan's massive water purification unit moved through Missoula early Tuesday morning.
Police said 20 to 25 demonstrators met the caravan near C.S. Porter Middle School on Reserve. There were no arrests.
By daylight, crews parked the mega load off Highway 200 in Milltown. You couldn't miss it.
"It's pretty impressive," said Minnesota tourists Melissa and Josh Knoopik. "It's definitely an attention-getter."
A family pulled over for a picture. The scene was too big to get the kids and the megaload all together in one photo.
Brett Rosenberg brought his little boy Reid to see it. Reid was more interested in playing in puddles and throwing rocks. But Brett thought it was a fascinating piece of engineering, even though he said its destination and purpose bothers him.
"It's not like we're going to turn off the oil taps in the mid-east to get oil from Canada," said Rosenberg, "It's just more, more, more. More consumption."
But supporters said crews spend money in every town they pass through.
Come dark, the loads are expected to move past chainsaw sculptor Brent Rogers' house.
"I have no problem with them at all," said Rogers. "All it does is bring revenue to Montana."
The caravan has five drivers, a spotter, and many pilot cars.
They carry tools, a welder, a generator, extra axles and new tires. It's equipped for a long, slow trip.
The megaload will pass through some of Montana's most rural country.
The load is expected to spend Tuesday night and Wednesday at Bowman's Corner off Highway 200. The next stop is expected in Valier.
The full route takes the load form Bonner along Highway 200, past Lincoln, to Bowman's Corner, to Highway 287, north to Augusta into Choteau. From Choteau north on 89 until you hit Montana 44, then east on 44 to Valier. Then it moves north out of Valier on Secondary 358 to Cut Bank, and north on 213 and 214 until it gets to Sweet Grass.
