Road work on Montana Street continues through next week

BUTTE, Mont. - A major construction project slowing traffic on Montana Street in Butte is almost complete.

The Montana Department of Transportation has been giving Montana Street,  from Josette Avenue north to Park Street, a makeover.

The construction zone isn't closed to drivers, but the 1.5 mile stretch is slowing down traffic on the road.

We contacted the Montana Department of Transportation today. They tell us this is a $700,000 paving project.

It's a two-part project. Earlier in the summer, Butte-Silver Bow replaced some of the water and sewer lines along Montana Street.

Now, the Department of Transportation has come in to fix the pavement.

We're told, that's what's taking so long.

"We try to be as efficient as we can with getting work done in a timely manner," said Butte District Administrator for the Montana Department of Transportation Jeff Ebert. "Unfortunately, there becomes a time when the general public is hampered by the road construction."

The work should be done by the end of next week.
