One dead, three injured after head-on collision near Townsend


MISSOULA, Mont. - A head-on collision near Townsend killed a 53-year-old Helena woman and injured three people.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, the crash happened near the intersection of Highway 12 and White Horse Road Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

A 2004 Dodge Stratus was headed southbound when the 20-year-old driver crossed the center line and headed toward a 2012 Corolla.  The driver of the Stratus corrected to the right while the 56-year-old driver of the Corolla corrected to his left expecting the Stratus to continue to continue to her left.  The vehicles collided head-on. 

A female passenger in the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was wearing a seat belt. 

Two passengers in the Stratus were injured, one is a 15-year-old female and the other a 61-year-old female from Billings.  The male driver of the Corrola, from Helena, was also injured.  All three were transported to Saint Pete's in Helena.

Alcohol and speed are determined to not have been factors.
