New distillery may open in downtown Bozeman

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Bozeman City Commission is set to decide whether it will allow the distillery to move onto West Main Street in downtown Bozeman.

NBC Montana talked with the owner, Jim Harris, Thursday afternoon. Harris did not want to comment about the distillery just yet as city officials will meet on Monday to finalize the location.

The distillery would replace the existing Schnee's location. Attached to the distillery would be a tasting room.

Director of Economic Development Brit Fontenot says he supports the new distillery and believes it will do well downtown.

Fontenot told NBC Montana downtown Bozeman has seen many changes with stores moving out and new places moving in. He says that's what keeps downtown so interesting.

"There's been a lot of activity and a lot of interest in Bozeman, both from locals interested in improving their buildings and from investors outside Bozeman," said Fontenot.

Fontenot says the new distillery would add more 'Made in Montana' appeal to downtown.
