Mainstreet Uptown Butte is seeking a potential business to help open a store in Uptown Butte

BUTTE, Mont. - Mainstreet Uptown Butte is seeking a potential business to help open a store in Uptown Butte. It's called the Uptown Pop UP Project.

Owner of Neeley Beads Pam Neeley opened her bead store in Uptown Butte last year. Before she had a shop uptown, she ran her business out of her home, but says she wanted more.

So she applied for the Uptown Pop UP project and got one of the first two spots.

"What's nice is I'm having to connect with larger companies and bigger suppliers to get product in for our bead clientele here in Butte," Neeley said.

The Uptown Pop UP Project helps local entrepreneurs find a vacancy for their store in Uptown Butte and helps get them established by paying four months rent. Now the program is looking for a new business to help.

"We're hoping that we can find somebody with a good business idea," said Mainstreet Uptown Butte Executive Director George Everett.

The Uptown Pop UP Project is supported in part by a local tax dollars and aims to fill empty store fronts.

"We're like a matchmaker between the business and the property to see where they would like to be," said Everett.

As for the location of the chosen business, Mainstreet Uptown Butte has 10 vacancies to choose from. Everett said he's leaning toward putting the new store on North Main Street, but said depending on the type of business, he'll put it wherever it fits best.

"We really want more people in the storefront to increase foot traffic uptown and be a draw and have a lively retail mix going on," said Everett.

Everett is accepting applications all through May and selected businesses will go through an interview process.

"Just to see what their business plan is and what their commitment is and what their chances are in succeeding," he said.

Neeley encourages all aspiring business owners to apply.

"They helped me and pushed me to a whole new place," she said.
