BOZEMAN, Mont. - Gallatin County health officials confirmed a second case of influenza but say there could be many more.
Health departments across the country are closely watching early season flu reports like laboratory confirmed cases, folks who have gone to outpatient clinics with flu-like symptoms and pediatric deaths.
Health experts say they're seeing cases earlier in Montana and hearing reports of more people hospitalized with flu-related illnesses.
Factors like these could indicate a severe season.
"I don't want the takeaway here to be there's two flu cases in Gallatin County. There's certainly probably many more cases than that. The bottom line is, the flu has arrived, now is the time to get your flu shot," says Gallatin City County Health Officer Matt Kelley.
Kelley says it's also important to cover your sneeze or cough, to wash your hands often and to stay home from work and keep your kids home from school if you have flu-like symptoms.
