Gallatin Co. judge sets bail at $50,000 for Belgrade woman charged with arson

BOZEMAN, Mont. - A Gallatin County Judge set bail at $50,000 for a Belgrade woman accused of starting a fire at a duplex Wednesday afternoon. 37-year-old Crystal Bachmann is charged with arson and two counts of felony criminal endangerment.

According to court documents, Bachmann lives in Unit B of the duplex at 702 Minnesota, the apartment where the fire started.

Police and firefighters say the fire started shortly after noon.

When they arrived on-scene they discovered Bachmann outside and say she made suspicious comments, so they took her into custody.

We dug deeper into court records and found that two other people were in the duplex at the time -- a neighbor from Unit A and her 3-month-old child.

The resident reportedly told investigators that Bachmann came to her apartment and told her to leave after the fire started and that when questioned Bachmann told her, "they can take me to jail."

Investigators at the scene say a search of the property found an empty gas can and a evidence that an accelerant had been used to start the fire.
