Former Butte judge sentenced for doctor shopping

BUTTE, Mont. -  A former Butte-Silver Bow justice of the peace has been given a three-year deferred sentence for "doctor shopping" for prescription pain medication.

The Montana Standard reports 67-year-old Robert "Bob" Lee of Butte was sentenced May 22 in District Court in Anaconda on two felony counts of fraudulently obtaining dangerous drugs.

Lee pleaded guilty to the charges in December, acknowledging he received simultaneous prescriptions for methadone from doctors in Butte, Anaconda and Whitehall and filled them at different pharmacies. He initially faced 34 counts.

Prosecutors recommended the deferred sentence as Lee seeks drug treatment and rehabilitation.

The drug charges were filed in January 2012, just after Lee received a deferred sentence for negligent endangerment for driving under the influence of methadone in November 2010.
