Commissioners okay Story Mansion sale extension, welcome Olive Garden

Commissioners okay Story Mansion sale extension, welcome Olive Garden 9-24-12

BOZEMAN, Mont. - "In my mind, the issues is how long can we wait?" said Commissioner Carson Taylor, about the Story Mansion during Monday night's meeting.

Commissioners agreed that extending the sale of the Story Mansion isn't the ideal situation, but at this point, the best option.

"I think it's important that we have a non-refundable deposit in addition a deadline" Deputy Mayor Jeff Krauss said.

The Commission said they'd like to see the buyer- Exergy Friends of the Story Mansion- show they're serious about the sale. One idea thrown out included a $30,000 deposit.

In the end, commissioners dropped that request.

"They believe there are some interested parties out there" City Manager Chris Kukulski said. He said he talked to someone who knew of possible buyers other than Exergy.

One group interested is the Bozeman Art Museum. They sent a letter to Kukulski, saying they'd like to purchase the mansion with the same agreements Exergy committed to.

Representatives with Exergy said they'll look at possibly teaming up with the museum, so they secure the sale before the new deadline.
"I think we need to commit to ourselves that we would not grant another extension" Krauss said.

He said if they don't reach the new deadline, there won't be any more extensions and the city will look at what to do next.

And in case the current deal with Exergy falls through, Commissioner Chris Mehl asked that the city encourage the interest of any other potential buyers.

Also on the agenda Monday night- approving a liquor license and alcohol conditional use permit for the new Olive Garden on 19th.

Commissioners unanimously granted the request.
"We welcome you" Krauss said, to Olive Garden representatives who attended the meeting.

The restaurant is in the early stages of construction. Construction workers told NBC Montana on Monday they just laid the concrete foundation, and are working on getting the walls up.

They said the Olive Garden is slated to open in early February.
