BUTTE, Mont. - Residents and business owners will be notified by the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department beginning March 13 to keep fire hydrants clear of obstructions like snow and ice.
According to the Butte-Silver Bow fire code ordinance, care must be taken so that obstructions including ice and trees do not prevent access to fire hydrants.
The reminder comes after several Butte homes and businesses allowed snow to accumulate around fire hydrants.
"When it comes to saving lives and businesses, seconds count," said Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department office coordinator Shelly Jones. "Keeping fire hydrants in your area clear will save lives."
At this time officials will not be issuing fines unless action is not taken by home and business owners to clear fire hydrants.
