Bozeman Deaconess Hospital announces new Chief Executive

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The following is a news release from Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

"Bozeman Deaconess Health Services (BDHS) Board of Trustees announced Kevin Pitzer has been selected President and Chief Executive Officer of BDHS. It is anticipated that Pitzer will assume the post on or before April 15, 2013.

According to Terry Cunningham, Chair of BDHS Board of Trustees, "Throughout the interview process, Kevin displayed a keen knowledge of the health care industry, and importantly, a firm grasp of and firsthand experience with the coordinated, collaborative care models that will be driving the future of health care delivery. In addition, Kevin has a history of being able to build strong bonds of trust with physicians, and the ability to identify and communicate a strategic vision throughout an organization."

Pitzer has over 25 years of senior healthcare leadership experience. Most recently, he was a Senior Vice President of Essentia Health and Chief Administrative Officer of the Essentia Health-West Region which serves eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota. In that role, Pitzer was responsible for all operations of Essentia Health-West Region's integrated health system of 250 employed physicians and providers, 3,400 employees, five hospitals, and 34 clinics. Previously, he has held senior healthcare positions as CAO of Innovis Health's integrated organization (merged with Essentia); and COO of Dakota Clinic/Innovis Health in Fargo, ND, along with other senior healthcare administrative positions with Pediatrix Medical Group; Olmsted Medical Center; Mayo Clinic; Scottsdale Healthcare; and John Deere Health Care. Pitzer holds a Master of Arts degree in Hospital and Health Administration and a Master of Business Administration degree in Management Sciences, both from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Pitzer is a member, board member, and leader in numerous professional associations.

"It is a privilege to be selected by the Board of Trustees to join Bozeman Deaconess Health Services as its President and CEO," states Pitzer. "The opportunities and challenges facing all healthcare systems are both exciting and daunting. Our Board and leadership have been strategic and visionary in their past and current initiatives. We are committed to continued proactive response and innovation, aligned with our mission and values." Kevin Pitzer, President & CEO, BDHS

Pitzer was selected after a nation-wide search. An internal search committee was established at BDHS with representation from the Board, Medical Staff, Senior Leadership, and Management team. Additionally, every member of the BDHS organization was invited to meet the final candidates and contribute their thoughts and suggestions.

As BDHS faces an ever-changing local, regional and national health care landscape, building relationships and affiliations will be the key to its future success. Added Cunningham, "Kevin is the ideal person to seek out and establish relationships that will greatly benefit our patients and our staff. In an industry that is becoming increasingly complex, Kevin's commitment has always been to the patient with the goal of providing excellent, reliable, compassionate, affordable care."

Pitzer's depth of experience in working jointly with physicians will also be of great benefit to BDHS. According to Rob Blake, MD, Chief of BDHS Medical Staff, "Kevin has a great history of working collaboratively with physicians. He has a wealth of experience that can benefit our hospital, community and medical staff. He has the gear to take Bozeman Deaconess into the future and I look forward to working with him."

Pitzer succeeds Gordon Davidson, BDHS Interim CEO and Chief Financial Officer. Davidson has been with BDHS for 30 years, and will retain his position as CFO. "I am extremely pleased that Kevin has agreed to lead our organization," said Davidson. "He was instrumental in developing one of the nation's top rural healthcare systems, and his experience will be invaluable as we prepare for the future delivery of healthcare."

Looking forward, Pitzer is eager to embrace his new role with BDHS. "Bozeman Deaconess has a tremendous legacy of providing the highest in quality, safe, and compassionate care to our patients across the Gallatin Valley. I look forward to joining our committed team of physicians, providers, and health care professionals in continued service to our patients, their families, and area communities."
