Baucus opens Jobs Summit in Butte

BUTTE, Mont. - Senator Max Baucus opened his sixth annual Jobs Summit in Butte Monday morning.

The goal of the summit is to connect Montana businesses with others inside and outside of the state to grow local economies and create jobs.

In his opening statements Monday morning Baucus highlighted success stories from past summits like the GE Billings facility and Seacast in Butte.  Baucus noted that the GE facility created 200 jobs as a direct result of the 2007 summit.  And Seacast has expanded its workforce three fold through connections made at the 2010 summit.

For the 2013 summit Baucus has brought some big names to the Mining City.  Speakers include Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt and FedEx founder Fred Smith among others.

But Baucus added, "In order for this to work we've got to bring our own ideas to the table and put a Montana twist on the advice our keynote speakers offer."

The summit runs Monday and Tuesday September 16th and 17th at Montana Tech in Butte.
