MISSOULA, Mont. - According to the newest release from the Missoula Rural Fire District, crews are currently mopping up on the northwest perimeter of the fire. Sawyer work is taking place on the west side. The current size of the fire is 161 acres. The firefighter's hard work is providing a good foot hold and a percent contained number will be out soon.
Monday morning officials lifted the Evacuation Order for residents on Oral Zumwalt Way and throughout the Upper Trails End Road area. However, the roads in the area are only open to residents and firefighters at this time.
The release says the blaze is believed to be lightning caused and was first reported around 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Fanned by winds estimated at 30-40 miles per hour, it is burning in grass and timber in steep terrain.
The Missoula Rural Fire District, Missoula City Fire Department, Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, US Forest Service, Florence and Frenchtown Fire Districts all responded. They are still on scene fighting the fire.
