Valerie Stamey's job future likely on commissioners' table Friday

HAMILTON, Mont. - Valerie Stamey's future as Ravalli County's interim treasurer will likely be on the table at a commissioners' meeting in Hamilton Friday.

Commissioners will review an independent audit conducted into the treasurer's office.

Although the auditing team found evidence of "disarray in the office," it concluded there was no fraud or embezzlement.

Commissioners had approved filing an official misconduct suit against Stamey. So far, that suit hasn't been filed yet.

County Attorney Bill Fulbright said he expects Friday's meeting will give his office direction.

"As far as filing the official misconduct suit or not," said Fulbright. "They will probably schedule another meeting to consider whether to go to the step of suspension, or take other employment action."

Stamey is under fire for late deposits and uncashed checks.

She was placed on paid administrative leave in January.
