MISSOULA, Mont. - Sonic Drive-In restaurants are planned for two locations in Missoula and one in Kalispell.
NBC Montana talked with Montana Sonic franchise owner Danny Miller Thursday.
Miller confirmed he's working to finalize plans on N. Reserve Street for a location between Taco Time and Cenex. He said a second Missoula location is in the works, he hopes to land a spot near the University. Miller's also trying to secure space in Kalispell for a Sonic Drive-In as well.
"If we're going to be successful in Montana then we're probably going to have to prove ourselves in Missoula first," Miller said.
He hopes to start construction on the N. Reserve location within the month, with plans to open the Sonic by September.
We asked Missoulians and folks in the Flathead what they think of the chain coming to Western Montana. Opinions were mixed. Some wondered how the franchise will fare in Missoula's locally driven economy. Many people were excited about the idea of adding another option.
Miller is confident Sonic will be a success.
"It has just exploded in growth over the time we've been here and we think Sonic is a great fit for Montana," said Miller.
Miller says he hopes to employ at least 200 people between two Missoula locations and a Kalispell store.
Miller said he recently purchased the state's other two Sonics in Billings and Great Falls.
The franchise got its start in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
