MISSOULA, Mont. - Missoula police are investigating the death of a Missoula woman killed Saturday night by blunt force trauma.
Police say the call came in as suspicious activity just before 9 p.m. Saturday, but the man they met outside a Missoula home on the 1500 block of Kent Avenue told them straight away it was something much worst.
"When they arrived they made contact with a male outside of the residence that advised he had just murdered somebody in the residence," says Missoula Police Sergeant Jerry Odlin.
Odlin says that man is 25-year-old Tyler Dan Perry and when officers entered the house they learned he was telling the truth.
They found the body of an adult female who we're told is a family member of Perry's.
"She apparently suffered blunt trauma to the head," Odlin tells us.
Odlin says officers immediately arrested Perry and he's in jail facing a charge of felony deliberate homicide.
"The victim's name has not been released because next of kin has not been notified," he says.
The investigation's ongoing and right now police won't tell us much more about what happened.
"Fortunately in Missoula we don't see frequent homicides and with the crimes we do investigate it is not a frequent occurrence that somebody just walks up to us and says 'hi officer I just committed this crime,' so that is somewhat out of the ordinary," explains Odlin.
We checked and with charges of deliberate homicide Perry could face life in prison or the death penalty.
Perry is being held without bond and will appear in Missoula justice court Monday.
NBC Montana will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest details as we learn more.

Officers entered the residence and found a deceased adult woman inside the residence with blunt force trauma to her head. The male was placed under arrest for Deliberate Homicide by responding officers. An investigative team was called in and they are in the process of conducting an investigation.
The deceased female is believed to be a family member of the suspect and at this time, next of kin have not been notified by the County Coroner. Given that fact, we will wait before releasing the name of the male arrested.
