MISSOULA, Mont. - Police say a man is in custody after attempting to kidnap a ten year old at a park yesterday in Missoula.
This happened at the Downtown Lions Park, which is off of West Broadway and California Street. This happened just before eight o'clock last night.
We're told a man tried unsuccessfully to kidnap a 10 year old. The man tried to pick up and carry off the girl, but her parents were able to detain the man until police arrived. Police say the ten year old is safe and doing well.
The park is a popular spot for people who live in the area.
Local residents were shocked when they heard what happened.
"It definitely surprises me and yeah, I guess it's alarming. We come here pretty often. I think that anytime something like that happens in Missoula, it's pretty shocking," said Sierra Farmar, a local resident.
"I have a 12-year old and a 16-year old and they both definitely, especially my 16-year old, she comes down here all the time with friends but not always with me," said Erika Koskela.
34 year old Cody James Low was booked into the Missoula County detention center late last night on charges of Attempted Kidnapping.
NBC Montana checked state records, and Low has served time at the state jail for probation violations and check fraud. He's scheduled Monday in Missoula County justice court.
