Standoff ends with one dead in St. Regis


One dead after stand-off in St. Regis (6-20-13)

MISSOULA, Mont. - One man is dead Wednesday night after an officer-involved shooting in Saint Regis.

NBC Montana has been following this story since we learned Wednesday evening that authorities were called to the area of Highway 135, a little over a mile from I-90

Mineral County dispatch confirmed for us that officers responded to the scene of a domestic disturbance. During the course of events shots were fired and an adult male suspect was killed.

Authorities urged area residents to stay inside during the standoff. Locals reported seeing officials with guns drawn, searching the area.

Highway Patrol, Forest Service and local firefighters all responded to the area and secured the scene. Authorities blocked off Main Street for several hours.

Local residents told NBC Montana that they were shocked, and saddened at the news. A cashier at a nearby gas station told NBC Montana that officers had responded to reported disturbances in the neighborhood before.

Officers have yet to release the name of the deceased man, and the incident remains under investigation.
