MISSOULA, Mont. - A long, hot July had Missoula's Splash Montana water park packed with people looking to cool off.
19 days in July were 90 degrees or above. Not ideal conditions for firefighters but perfect for a day at the pool.
"Obviously it's not very good for the fires, but it has been good for us," said Aquatics Program Specialist Chelsea Beckwith.
While this July has been busy Beckwith says isn't always the case."We've had summers where it snows in June…and that's not so good to go swimming."
But this wasn't one of those years. For the month of July alone the slides and pools have seen 30,000 visitors.
The long stretches of hot temperatures may be ending but park directors are hopeful the boom in business is not.
"We got to open fairly early in June compared to the last couple years, we've stayed open all of July, we're hoping it continues through August," Beckwith said.
The season Splash season wraps up August 27. Until then the park is extending its "After 5 p.m. Family Value Pack"—that's reduced admission for 2 adults and 2 children.
In addition the park is still accepting registration for swim lessons.
