South Crossing shopping center gets green light from city officials

MISSOULA, Mont. - Monday night the construction company charged with developing the site of the old K-Mart building was given the official go-ahead by city council members.

The future 'South Crossing' shopping center will be located on the south side of Missoula, near the corner of Brooks Street and Reserve Street, and developers tell us it's a prime location.

At the city council meeting Monday, developers from Woodbury Construction, a Utah-based company, explained their plans for the commercial site to council members.

NBC Montana found out that not only are we getting more stores, like Cabela's Outpost, but the developers tell us they have a few restaurants interested in the location as well.
Kraig Erickson, a leasing agent with Woodbury Construction, explained that part of the plan is to beautify the area around the businesses.

Erickson tells NBC Montana the company will be adding sidewalks and bike lanes along Brooks Street and Dore Lane.  The site will also be home to a new bus stop and shelter.

Erickson tells us creating a pedestrian-friendly and beautiful environment is one of their top goals.

"We're going to have a much more beautiful project with landscaping, buildings and walkways than what is there today," he tells us.  "You're going to see more shopping, you're going to see more jobs and a really nice project that people can look at and be proud of and consider part of the community."

Erickson tells NBC Montana the company expects Cabela's Outpost will open the summer of 2014.  As for the other four commercial sites, he says we can expect more announcements over the next few weeks.
