Police search for suspect in ATM vandalism

MISSOULA, Mont. - Missoula sheriff's deputies are looking for the person suspected of vandalizing an ATM east of Missoula.

It's just one more hit in a string of recent ATM burglaries.

Authorities tell NBC Montana the suspect used a crowbar to try to remove the front face of the ATM at Two Rivers Bank in West Riverside, near Bonner.

Bank employees discovered the destroyed ATM last Friday and immediately notified authorities.

The suspect didn't get into the ATM so no money was taken, but damage to the ATM is estimated at $12,000 to $15,000.

"It sounds like they tried to use some kind of a pry bar or a crowbar and basically just bashed it," Sheriff's Deputy Paige Pavalone tells us.  "They did a lot of superficial damage but were unsuccessful in their attempts."

Earlier this week we told you how a suspect stole cash out of two Missoula ATMs.  However deputies do not believe this incident is related to the others.

If you have any information about this ATM vandalism you are urged to call Crimestoppers at (406) 721-4444.
