MISSOULA, Mont. - Montana mountain biking Olympian Sam Schultz spoke during a multimedia presentation at a charity event in Missoula Tuesday. The event raised money for Youth Homes InnerRoads Wilderness Program.
Hellgate High School senior Chris Herrick put on the event for a senior project.
Schultz himself graduated from Hellgate in 2004. He biked his way to a win at the 2012 U.S. National Championship in cross-country, and later placed 15th in the London Olympic Games.
"I have always been adamant about working with an organization that benefits local youth for my senior project, and it has been awesome to team up with InnerRoads and Sam Schultz to put on this event," says Herrick in a press release.
"Growing up in Alaska and Montana, I learned to appreciate the outdoors at a young age and I'm excited to work with an organization that incorporates that same appreciation for the outdoors into the lives of the kids they help."
Admission to the event was free, but proceeds were collected from raffle items. Items were donated by Big Sky Brewing, The North Face, and Sho-Air/Cannondale, and the money is slated to go to the InnerRoads organization.
