Multi-car crash on Highway 93 claims life of Plains woman

MISSOULA, Mont. - A 21-year-old woman from Plains died Sunday from injuries sustained in a mulit-car accident on Evaro Hill.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 3:20 near mile marker five on U.S. 93 when a Toyota Tundra, driven by a 21-year-old male from Arlee, crossed into the southbound lanes, sideswiped a Dodge pickup, bounced off the guardrail, and struck a 1994 Ford Ranger in the right front corner.

In the Ranger was its 18-year old driver, and his passenger, the 21-year old woman from Plains.

MHP says both occupants of the Ranger were wearing seat belts, while the driver of the Tundra was not.

He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit of Saint Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Traffic was backed up in both directions for more than 3 hours.

The investigation is on going, but MHP does not believe alcohol to be a factor.
