Missoula police investigate possible sex assault

Missoula, MONT - Missoula police are investigating a possible child sex assault at what's described as a day care facility.

Police say parents of a four-year-old girl told them their daughter started asking them about sex when they picked her up Thursday.

Investigators told us a day care worker talked to her about sex and that she told adults her bottom hurt.

Detective Sergeant Travis Welsh told us Thursday afternoon that the parents said they had not given the girl any reference to sex at home.

Officers didn't release the name of the day care, but we got an e-mail from Kid Central Preschool located on the 2200-hundred block of Holborn Street.  The e-mail said the day care has placed the individual allegedly involved on leave.

We asked administrators to talk to us on camera; they referred us back to their statement that pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement and to conduct their own investigation.

The statement ends with the day care center saying the safety of children is and has always been their top priority.

The child was taken to First Step for a forensic interview and police are investigating the case as a possible sexual assault.

Missoula detectives tell us the investigation should be done in two weeks.
