MISSOULA, Mont. - The ballroom of the Missoula DoubleTree was packed late Tuesday morning with citizens eager to hear what amounts to Missoula's own state of the union. The Chamber calls it "The State of the Commerce Report". The theme for the luncheon was "Redeveloping Missoula."
One of the highlights of the presentation was how taxes in urban renewal districts have helped attract business to Missoula by improving infrastructure. Additional projects using these funds were either announced or hinted at.
Intersections on the south end of Brooks Street will be given a facelift with trees and pedestrian crossings.
Missoula Redevelopment Agency Director Ellen Buchanan said she expects to see plans for new developments on the old Fox Theater property within the next 5 months.
Other speakers included local real estate development professionals and University of Montana President Dr. Royce Engstrom. Engstrom stated that he was happy that the University was part of the conversation in creating economic growth in Missoula.
