MISSOULA, Mont. - Ravalli County suspended embattled Treasurer Valerie Stamey without pay last week for not depositing money, failing to write checks and not balancing the books.
On Tuesday, a team of five county officials searched her office and found checks and currency totaling $5,367.34 lodged between the desk and the office wall. This accounts for the last of the deposits reported missing from the time Stamey was appointed treasurer.
An earlier cursory search of the office in late January located about $780,000 in undeposited checks and currency.
Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman says no evidence of criminal conduct was discovered.
