Memorial to be held for rural fire chief, national instructor

MISSOULA, Mont. - The firefighting community in northwest Montana will gather this weekend to remember a beloved fire chief that passed away two weeks ago from cancer.

Before becoming Battalion Chief of the Bull Lake Rural Fire District, Tony Bacon was a well known instructor and author in fire suppression technique. He was responsible for training national parks fire fighters across the country, and he was also the one who engineered the firing operation that turned the Lolo Creek Fire away from Lolo last summer.

A memorial for Bacon will be held this Saturday at the Troy Activities Center at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
