MISSOULA, Mont. - If you were near Fort Missoula Sunday afternoon you probably saw residents running away from swarms of zombies.
Sunday afternoon hundreds of folks came out to 'Run Wild Missoula's' first annual 5K 'Zombie Run.'
The goal for runners was not to become infected; each runner started the race with three yellow flags and they had to hold onto those as they made their way through the zombie infested course.
The 5K was not timed because the only goal today was to remain 'uninfected' and to raise money for the running club.
NBC Montana caught up with a group of young runners who say they would do whatever it takes to not become a zombie.
"We're going to put the little ones in the front," said young runner Logan Riddle.
"The (zombie) face paints are amazing," says young runner Joseph Sannella. "They did very good and the costumes and the paintings on the face are just so cool!"
Runners who completed the course without losing all of their yellow flags were awarded a ‘survivor' pin.
Run Wild Missoula organizers tell us the zombie run was so popular they plan on doing it again next year.
