Hellgate Knights win state lacrosse tournament

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Hellgate lacrosse team went to state with one thing on their mind and that was to win another state championship, and that's exactly what they did Sunday in Bozeman.

Hellgate advanced to the state title game for a second consecutive year after beating the Bozeman Hawks in a semi-final match-up of what was last years title game match-up.

Sunday the Knights faced Flathead in cold and rainy conditions, but nothing was going to get in the way of Hellgate and another championship. The knights went into the half with a 5-2 lead over Flathead and they never looked back getting the victory 15-4 the final score.

"It means a lot to us, coming out in practice the last couple of weeks we've been going really hard and we knew they were going to come ready too" said Hellgate senior Logan Kuhn.

It was an all around team effort from the Knights in getting the win, they say playing with team chemistry helped them claim their second straight title.

"We were passing better" added Kuhn. "We had mostly assisted goals and I think that was really what did it."

Hellgate entered the tournament as the top team after finishing the regular season at the top of the conference standings, and for the seniors who were part of last year's championship team winning never gets old.

"It feels good, this is my senior year, it feels good to go out with two in a row" said Kuhn.

Now that the season is over the next test for Hellgate will be to go for the three-peat.
