GOP, Dems react to new U.S. Senate candidate

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Montana Republican and Democratic parties, along with state and national representatives, were quick to issue statements following the announcement that Amanda Curtis would replace Senator John Walsh as the Montana Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

Montana Republican Party Chairman Will Deschamps said:

"Once again,  Democrat party insiders have hand picked a candidate that is out-of-touch with Montana and all-too-eager to rubber stamp President Obama's reckless agenda. From fighting for policies that threaten good paying coal jobs to mocking Montanans' concerns over our national debt and working against our Second Amendment rights, Amanda Curtis proves that she either doesn't understand what's important to Montana-- or just doesn't care.  We deserve a voice in Washington that will stand for Montana-- not Obama."

Representative Steve Daines, Curtis' challenger for the senate seat, issued the following statement:

"This November, Montanans will have a clear choice between my positive agenda for more jobs and less government, or more government and fewer jobs. I respect Montanans' judgment to decide the path that is best for our state, and remain focused on fighting for positive solutions that protect Montanans from Washington overreach, grow our economy, and get our country back on track."

The Montana Democratic Party released the following statement regarding Curtis' nomination:
"Amanda Curtis is a force to be reckoned with. In her time in the state legislature, Curtis proved her strength as a voice for hardworking, everyday Montanans. Amanda has a proven record as a communicator and fighter. As a teacher, Curtis has a unique insight into what matters most to Montana families. In Washington, Curtis will work with both sides to champion the issues that matter most to Montanans. Whether she is expanding opportunities for Montana children, keeping our public lands public, fighting for worker's right, or ensuring women have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions, Amanda Curtis is the voice Montana needs. We are thrilled to work with her and make sure that she is Montana's next U.S. Senator."

And here is a statement from Senator Jon Tester in response to the Democratic nomination of Amanda Curtis as candidate for U.S. Senate:

"I'm pleased that the Party nominated Amanda Curtis.  She brings grit, energy and a breath of fresh air.  Now, Montana Democrats must come together to deliver a strong message:  We are the Party that stands up for working families by protecting our public lands, womens' access to health care, Social Security and Medicare, and ensuring that Montana tribes have the resources they need to succeed.  As your senior senator, I'm committed to delivering that message and leading our candidates to victory."
