Frenchtown Fire Department trains in ice water rescue

MISSOULA, Mont. - On the first day of spring, emergency officials say this is the time of year when they start getting frequent calls for people who have fallen through thin ice.

A crew with the Frenchtown Fire Department trained in ice water rescue at the Frenchtown pond on Thursday.

They rehearsed their response to a scenario where a 35-year-old male had fallen through the ice.

We're told the ice at Frenchtown Pond and on lakes and ponds across most of western Montana has become dangerously thin, and people are advised to use extreme caution.
