Family loses 10 pets in Polson house fire

MISSOULA, Mont. - The investigation continues into a weekend house fire on the 500 block of 10th Avenue in Polson, where a family lost 10 pets.

Video posted by the Polson Police Department shows flames fully engulfed the home when first responders arrived.

The calls went out at 2:26 Saturday morning.

Polson Assistant Fire Chief Terry Gembala tells NBC Montana that the couple who lived in the home made it out safely, however, 10 pets were lost, including a dog and her puppies.

Gembala says a man who lived in the house tried to put it out and the flames singed his hair.

Gembala says the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are helping to house the displaced couple.

The home was a complete loss.

Investigators still don't know how the fire started.

A number of agencies responded, including power crews, because Gembala says the fire burned the electricity lines to the home.
