Coroner identifies 19-year-old killed in Butte area rollover

BUTTE, Mont. - Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LaBreche confirmed 19-year-old Kyle Podgorski is the man who died in a late night-crash southwest of Butte.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, a sport utility vehicle with four men inside went off an embankment on Moose Creek Road. It happened around 10:30 Thursday night. Podgorski was ejected from the back seat and died at the scene.

Investigating troopers said the SUV was traveling too fast for the snow-packed and icy conditions.

The Montana Highway Patrol remained at the scene of the fatal crash late Friday afternoon. They marked the scene of crash, and worked their way down the embankment to determine what happened.

Troopers said the four men were taking a drive late Thursday when they lost control of the SUV.

The road is winding, slick, and currently covered in ice and snow.

We're told the car was speeding down a hill, missed a curve and fell off a cliff.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Knutson is investigating the crash, and said none of the men were wearing seat belts.

Kyle Podgorski was ejected and died at the scene. The others were taken to St. James and treated for their injuries.

Knutson said they believe the men may have been drinking.

The investigation has been turned over to the County Attorney who will determine if the 18-year-old driver of the car will face charges.
