MISSOULA, Mont. - Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) have reached an agreement over the way Van Valkenburg's office handles sexual assault cases.
Van Valkenburg, along with Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, Missoula County commissioners, Acting Assistant U.S. Attorney General Jocelyn Samuels and U.S. Attorney for Montana Michael Cotter will announce agreements at a press conference Tuesday.
The DOJ reached agreements with the Missoula Police Department and the University of Montana in May 2013. Van Valkenburg challenged the office, asking a judge to decide whether the department had the legal authority to investigate his office in the first place.
The press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday. Watch NBCMontana.com for the latest updates.
