MISSOULA, Mont. - The Missoula Police Department is asking for help from the public, to find the person or people responsible for a string of vandalized vehicles.
Police report that in the last couple days there have been approximately 45 windows shot out of vehicles in Missoula's Northside neighborhood. Police said it looks like most windows were shot at with a BB/pellet gun, in the middle of the night and possibly from a moving vehicle.
Several people in the neighborhood spent Sunday afternoon cleaning up glass, after their cars were hit overnight.
The passenger window of Michael Streit's truck was shot out. His wife's van, also sitting outside their Northside home was hit as well.
"I woke up to an officer knocking on my door at 1:00 in the morning and he told me that somebody had shot the window out of my truck," said Streit. "20 minutes after the officer left, they rolled back around and shot out her back window."
His neighbors just a few houses down had a shattered window as well, and folks several blocks over said they've seen at least ten shot out windows on their street.
Streit said it's an unfortunate crime so close to the holidays.
"You know it's Christmas time and we ended up with close to $700 worth of property damage and our neighbors and everyone else around us is affected," he said.
Other areas hit by vandals were Paxson Street to 39th Street and the 700 block of Stephens Avenue.
MPD is increasing patrols to help find some answers, but they're also asking residents to be on alert for suspicious people and to report any criminal activity immediately to 911.
Police are also asking that folks who haven't reported damage yet, or people who have information about the crimes to contact the police station at 552-6300.
Callers can remain anonymous and provide tips to Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
