Celtic Festival kicks off in Missoula

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Celtic Festival kicks off Friday night and will continue all day Saturday in Caras Park in Missoula.

Festival founder Bob Lukes said there will be a mix of old and new events this year.

"We just have a great celebration of the Celtic cultures. We've got some fantastic entertainment for everyone out here. We've got Irish dancing, Celtic folk music and in the evenings we've got Celtic rock bands," said Lukes.

Bands that will perform at the festival include the Gothard Sisters, Young Dubliners, Dirk Freymuth and Eric Rigler.

There are special events for kids scheduled for Saturday afternoon that include red hair and freckle competitions, Irish storytelling and an appearance from Monte, the University of Montana mascot.

Food vendors will be cooking up something special for the festival. Silk Road will serve Highlander beer-battered fish and chips and Big Dipper will serve Highlander beer-flavored ice cream.

Admission is free.
