MISSOULA, Mont. - UPDATE: Missoula Rural Fire Chief Dan Merritt says the grass fire is now contained.
He says a resident on Blue Mountain Road was burning a wood pile when the wind picked up and caused the fire to spread out control over nearly an acre of grass.
The chief says this is a good reminder for people to be mindful of weather conditions during open burning season.
Emergency crews are responding to a grass fire near Blue Mountain Road, south of Missoula.
The blaze was reported around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, near the intersection of Blue Mountain Road and River Pines Road.
We have a reporter on scene, who says large columns of smoke are visible from Blue Mountain Road, and at least 2 fire engines have responded.
