Snow fans packed the slopes at Whitefish Mountain Resort over the weekend to ring in the mountain's 65th season. The summit has gotten more than 20 inches of snow over the past week, and some had been waiting since 1:00 am on Saturday for the chairs to start up.
Resort staff plan to open more runs as the season progresses.
NBC Montana caught up with several riders around the resort on Sunday.
Kalispell resident Derek Barstow says it was tough to wait for the season to kick in.
"It was super hard. I've been looking at the web cams and then I've just been getting more excited…," said Barstow.
"It's good conditions and it was so much fun yesterday coming up here," said Kalispell resident Charlie Neddo. "I'm just exited to get some more pow."
"It was the best opening weekend we've had so far," said Kalispell resident Matthew Roberts.
"I wasn't here for the opening of last year but from what I've heard this is a pretty good one as far as powder conditions are concerned," said Whitefish resident Lucas Harris.
