KALISPELL, Mont. - About a dozen volunteers and workers headed out to Foys Lake to help prepare for the pond hockey tournament this weekend.
Workers are setting up five different rinks for the tournament. They are making sure everything is ready for Friday's event.
The tournament is open to the public and will be taking place all day Friday and Saturday, with the championship game on Sunday. This is the first time the Flathead Valley has held a hockey tournament.
The Kalispell convention and visitor bureau director anticipates to have a good crowd based on the number of people who signed up to play this weekend.
"We have 51 teams coming, and 90 percent of those are from out of the area. As far away as San Diego, across Washington state, over 20 teams from Canada, Oregon and across Montana," said Diane Medler, Kalispell Convention and Visitor Bureau Director.
The event is free and open to the public. The only cost will be parking, which is $5 for the whole weekend. Medler says it will be a good time with food and fun entertainment.
