HERON, Mont. - Two more food-conditioned black bears were captured and euthanized by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials near Heron, Montana. That brings the total number of bears to seven.
Reports said a local resident allegedly fed the bears, creating a hazard to local safety. Officials tell NBC Montana they've removed all traces of food, and that feeding of any wildlife is illegal.
"The Montana law is pretty clear that you can't attract bears deliberately with food attractants," said FWP's John Fraley, "and we believe in this case that this has been a violation. We're going to be working with the Sanders County attorney on appropriate charges. And that's all we can say right now because it's under investigation."
