Truck found, tools still missing in burglary

Truck found, tools still missing in Kalispell burglary 09-18-13

KALISPELL, Mont. - Flathead County Sheriff's Department recovered a utility truck that was missing from Glacier Stone Supply, but as for all of the tools that were stolen from the shop, those weren't found with the truck and are still missing.

When we were there Monday, the truck was gone, just part of what was taken in what the owner called a $120,000 burglary.

Someone spotted the truck about three miles away after hearing about it on the news, and Glacier Stone Supply President Tony Kavanagh is grateful.

"We had a homeowner that had seen and heard of some of the stories and saw the truck parked over at the boys and girls club over and roller rink," said Kavanagh.

But he'd like it if the $50,000 worth of tools were back as well.

Kavanagh tells us his mechanics can't work without their tools, and then there's the piles of paperwork he's had to fill out.

Little wonder he reports his business is feeling the pinch.

"It slows our ability to quickly repair and get things back up and running, so it does definitely affect our production.  It does not affect our staffing.  We're not laying anybody off or making any changes there."

We spoke with a few employees at the shop and while they declined to speak with us on camera, they say that they believe the burglars came in and randomly took valuable hand tools, leaving some drawers empty and other ones full of tools.

Detectives won't tell us what that means.

All they'll say is they're still working the case.

But for right now, while the truck is back, tool drawers are empty, and all Kavanagh can do is wait for replacements to get his business up and running again.

If you have any information on the break in you can call the Flathead County Crime Stoppers at 752-8477.
